Week Two, Museum Visit & Flemish Baroque


In the second week of this study group we will virtually visit a museum, respond to this visit in a brief essay response, and begin an examination of Baroque art in the Netherlands.  We will learn about artists, movements, and the related historical climate.  You should try to get a sense for the distinct oeuvre of each of the artists examined and also recognize important works of art on sight.  Further, we will get experience looking closely at works of art in a museum setting and understand the kinds of questions that we should ask ourselves when examining a work of art "in person."

 

First Session:

Complete the "Museum Visit #1" from section 1.3.3 on the "Saylor Foundation, Art History 207" course.

 

Second Session:

Complete the "Writing Assignment #1" from section 1.3.3 on the "Saylor Foundation, Art History 207" course.  Please note that this does NOT need to be a full 5-page paper.  Instead, aim for a few paragraphs.

 

Third Session:

Complete sections 2.1 through 2.2.2.3 on the "Saylor Foundation, Art History 207" course.
