Task Discussion

  • Alex   Oct. 17, 2011, 7:14 a.m.

    Hi Orange group,

    Some thoughts for our group.

Just woking throught the expectations for week two and noticed there was a list of things to discuss. It looks like it doesnt really matter if you cant teach a lesson with web2.0, you can still be involved in creating the kit. I thought I would add my thoughts on a few of the topics discussed in week 2 project task.
    1. Would be good too meet using either skype or instant messanger once a week. Not toally sure of the time difference but im sure we can sort out a time. I would like us to create a part of the kit that is very practical, as im am very practically focussed and at times find the overall theroy a little harder to work out. I would like us as a group to work together and try to have regualr contact.
    2. Need to work on this one as a group.
3.The areas that really interest me are the following
    Effective Communication
    Working in Collaboration
    Global Perspective
    21st Century Skills
    Real World Application

    4. I think that it would be good to include a definition of the topic, some readings/videos related to the topic, a range of web2.0 tools that can be used and then a few lesson ideas for the tools and the topics.
Let me know what you think :)
Sorry to send such a long message.

    HI Alex,

OK, let's do it. I'm most interested in the following:

    Working in Collaboration
    Global Perspective
    21st Century Skills

I think your ideas are great! Here's what you suggested:

    1) a definition of the topic,

    2) some readings/videos related to the topic,

    3) a range of web2.0 tools that can be used and then

    4) a few lesson ideas for the tools and the topics.

Do we have to choose our topic first? Maybe that is a good place to start? Let's hope that Maria shows up soon so all three of us can collaborate.

You are 2 hours ahead of me in Australia. What time of the day would a Skype chat be good for you? Please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

Im pretty sure we dont actually choose a topic, we just post our top 4 choices onto last weeks project page and then from there our choice is made by the facilatators. We also need to post some of our other understandings of other questions which are in the project section, I think we need to do this before this sunday. I will let you know later today when will be a good skype time. My skype name is alex.window.

    Hi Alex,

OK, since we have many choices in common, it should be no problem to post 4 choices! :) I think we should give Maria a little longer to join us, but let's try for online communication this week.

Actually, Skype is great for talking but for doing a collaborative writing exercise together, I'd suggest either an etherpad or Google Docs (and chat). What do you think? I can set up either easily, do you have a preference? Google Docs is more permanent, etherpads sometimes lose info after a day or more. So for me Google Docs would probably be best. Here's a Google Doc I set up, you can edit it too. But if you have another idea, please tell me.

Afternoons are best for me, any day after 3:00 my time so after 5:00 your time would be good for me, how is that for you? Early morning would be okay for me too, from 5:00 a.m. - 5:30 or 6:00 my time would be best, so that's 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 or 8:00 your time in Australia.

    Bye for now,

    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

I have just opened up the google doc, but i am unable to edit it, i think that you need to share it with me, winda64@gmail.com is my address if that helps. I might be able to do skye on thursday afternoon around 5:30 my time. I will try to use it on my phone, what is your skype username.

    Hi Alex,

I added your e-mail address so you should be able to edit now. Thursday at 5:30 your time sounds fine. If we want to chat by typing, we can use Google Docs. It has a chat tool. But if we want to chat by voice, we'll need Skype. Shall we try just using Google Docs first? If we need to, we can use Skype too. I'll send you a Skype invitation so if we need it, it'll be set up already.

During our chat, should we try to answer the questions on the Google Doc? Do you think we need to add or delete anything? Maybe we could choose which things we think are the most important and do those first? I'm a bit worried about time. For example, I don't want to define all the nine topics. I think each group defining their own topic is enough. What do you think?

Looking forward to collaborating with you!

    Cheers,

    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

I think that if we just look at few of them it wont matter, we dont have heaps of time and we kind of already have definded the majority in week one. Google chat is fine with me, see you at 5:30/3:30 your time :)

Thanks for all of your dialogue and coordination across time zones!

Would also be curious to hear your thoughts on how we evaluate "evidence of deeper learning" in student social media work. Click here
