Write the grant


Writing your letters, grant proposals, and supporting materials is very important. It's a lot of work, but worth doing right. When you write your grant, make sure to:

  • Format the grant in the way the organization specifies.
  • Carefully consider the funding organization's goals and make sure you address them in your grant.
  • Write a clear description of your project that conveys your passion for why you want to do this.
  • Include a concise opening that explains your idea and makes people want to read more.
  • Stay within any suggested length requirements. If in doubt, keep it short. Grant readers and funders are busy people!
  • Include a clear detailed budget.
  • Include letters of support from your advisor and anyone else who is participating.
  • Have others read your materials and give input.
  • Proofread! Typos or grammar mistakes don't look good.
  • Double-check any guidelines from the funding organization to make sure you've done everything they way they want it.
