I was exposed to several extremely useful PLN's through this course that I found very useful and that I know I will use in my future.
The first most useful was the Twitter chats. I guess I'm further behind then the average 20 year old, but, before this class I never once used Twitter. Joining in on the #mathchat discussions on Twitter allowed me to be exposed to it and I found it very useful and a great resource. It's an outlet that connects anyone to a huge range of people. I interacted with teachers, parents, teachers' assistants, students and more. We were able to share our ideas with one another and I learned a lot of new concepts. Twitter has these types of talks for almost anything you may want to join a group chat for. I definitely see Twitter being a PLN that I will reference many times after this class.
I also LOVED Scratch. While it was difficult to understand at first, I quickly caught on. After watching tutorials made by our class and on youtube, I learned all that Scratch is capable of. You can make diagrams, graphs, videos, and a lot more using Scratch, and they all can be brought back to math. I think Scratch is a great mathematical tool for students because it is unique and challenging enough to be appealing to students of various ages and it has so many capabilities.
I really appreciate all the exposure to blogs I got from this class. I never really considered blogs to be a reliable source but this class helped me realize that it is. It's a great resource to read extended ideas of other people, and is a great outlet to share your own ideas and receive feedback.
This class also helped me realize what a great source fellow students can be! I always try to receive feedback from my teachers, but this class was unique because it allowed me to receive and give feedback directly from and to students. I'd never used P2PU before and when I remember the very first week being like "oh no...what is this?" but it turned out to be awesome! I thought it made communicating with other students really efficient. The openness of this class is what appealed to me most - all of our comments being public and I really valued being able to receive feedback on what we post.
There are so many PLN's out there - they just all have to be discovered!
