Starts Monday 3 November 2014

Facilitated module! Although all modules have some facilitation, this module will be facilitated on a daily basis to support the discussions in the lead up to the challenge.

What you will explore in this module

  • Mental health issues are diverse and can have social, interpersonal, individual and political components
  • Similarities and differences exist around the world in relation to mental health issues, their causes and effect on communities
  • There are a variety of determinants of mental health that are well documented
  • Mental illness has many forms and has longterm social, emotional and economic effects on individuals and communities

This module is moderated on a daily basis to encourage discussion about the range of mental health issues around the world and how these link your local communities. Also, to explore the factors that influence the occurrence and type of mental health problems that individuals experience.

Reflect and discuss

Explore the resources in this module (including any that are posted in the discussion forum) and note one or two specific mental health issues that interest you.

Try to find online resources that represent statistics on the prevalence, treatment and costs of mental disorders in your country, and share them on the forums. (Some examples to get you started, are listed below under the 'Find out more' section).

Record your reflections about how global issues are linked to community and individual concerns.

Post any questions or thoughts you have, in the discussion forum. There will be some further questions for discussion in the forum this week.
