Cases (Feb., March, April, May)

The month-long cases are described on the links below. The CE versions involve 60-minute google+ hangouts each week for 4 weeks at a time determined to suit the schedules of those who register and interact in a private google+ community. Course participants are strongly encouraged to join at least one CE to experience how much can be learned with a small commitment of time using the CE structure to motivate and connect participants (more detail about CEs).

  • February: "The democratic control of science—A self-guided e-trail" (CE version) -- Contribute sites and guides for an e-trail (an online equivalent of a nature trail) on grassroots or citizen initiatives that have helped to shape the directions taken in science and technology.

  • March: "Policy and practices around new genetic technologies, here and there" (CE version) -- Develop research proposals for international collaboration comparing policy and practices around new genetic technologies.

  • April: "Preparing people to be informed participants in political debates about science, technology, and social change" (CE version) -- Develop activities or lessons that prepare people to be informed participants in political debates about science, technology, and social change.

  • May: "Science-policy connections to improve responses to extreme climatic events: Briefings requested—quickly!" (CE version) -- Investigate science-policy connections that could improve responses to extreme climatic events.
