I made this group as a place for people of all levels of Japanese to practice and share their experiences, and to teach those who are just starting. Being a learner of Japanese for three years, I know how hard it can be to study all by yourself with noone to tell you what to look for or where.
I would like to invite people who are just starting to learn to join us because there are some very valuable things you can hear from the people who already did the baby steps, both about Japanese and learning in general.
Anyone can follow a study group on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. Please answer the following set(s) of questions if you want to become a participant or organizer.

I'm 23 years old and I live in Louisville, Kentucky. I just recently graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in psychology. I will be returning to school to complete my Psy. D. degree in Clinical Child Psychology.
I love to read and currently own more than 1000 books on varying topics in many different languages including English, French, German, Japanese, and Latin.
I love listening to music. My taste in music runs the gamut from classical to Celtic to blues/jazz to metal. I find myself listening to more and more Celtic and classical music, however, as I find that it relaxes me.
I spend a lot of my free time on the internet or reading. As mentioned above, I own many books. In addition to the 1000+ physical books I own, I own a further 300 on my Kindle. They are primarily classics which I love. I also own a vast array of horror novels which are another guilty pleasure of mine.

I am interested in this particular topic because I started learning Japanese roughly about two years ago while still in university. I quickly fell behind in the class as the professor assumed that we all had a working knowledge of the language despite it being an intro level course. So, I am here to learn, more or less, at my own pace.
I would like to become semi-fluent in the language. I would really enjoy being fluent but I'm not sure whether this course is designed to teach fluency. I also hope to master hiragana, katakana, and kanji as I am very weak in those areas. I am especially weak in the area of hiragana.

Standard Set Answer:I've loved Japanese culture from my introductions to it. I've always wanted to visit but I would not want to visit without knowing how to comunicate. My hope in participating is to overcome the initial energy requirement to get back into studying this on my own time. I find I am far more productive when I have others that are relying on me, this has proven a useful tactic the past. To this end, if I can help in any way, with my near beginer levels of japanese, in the forward momentum of this course, then I would love to, and it would force my own progress to happen at a faster rate.
